SAIC is looking for a intern to join our Mechanical Engineering team. This is a remote position that can be worked from any location in the U.S. 

  • Develops static and dynamic design of mechanical systems, equipment and packages. 
  • Works collaboratively with electrical, computer and systems engineers to design complete systems. 
  • Designs hardware for mounting and support of electrical systems and creates fabrication drawings in SolidWorks for components to be fabricated at outside machine shops. 
  • Incorporates redlines into drawings for Engineering Change Proposals.
  • Provides technical support, either within the company or in support of customer contracts, on assignments using established procedures.
  • Candidates are primarily engaged in the technical or scientific disciplines through the course of college study. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content. Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee).

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: AA Degree in related discipline; Or, High School and 0 years experience. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Extensive work with CAD including SolidWorks, Inventor, and Onshape
  • Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and general circuit building
  • Experience with robotics: designing and fabricating mechanical components, 3D modeling, soldering, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Proficient with 3D printing including independently building a Prusa MK3S+ printer and MMU2S extruder extension from component parts and repair/maintenance of Panther Racing 3D printers
  • Experience with MIG welding
  • Lab documentation experience from specialized Engineering high school classes
  • Research experience: completed a year-long research project titled “Developing an Electronic System to Reduce Drowning Risk in Backyard Pools
  • Project Management experience through robotics team leadership
  • Experience with drill press, vertical and horizontal band saw, laser engraver, CNC router, water jet, 3D printers, and other makerspace tools
  • Experience with prototyping and model design 
  • Strong leadership, problem solving, and critical thinking skills

DESIRED:

  • SolidWorks skills 

CLEARANCE:

  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
  • U. S. citizenship required 

Target salary range: $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
