We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Computer Operator V to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for advanced system administration, complex troubleshooting, performance optimization, security management, and may participate in network design, requiring a deep understanding of hardware, software, and network infrastructure, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to maintain high system availability and efficiency in complex environments.
Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.
This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and resolve complex system issues, including performance bottlenecks, hardware failures, and software conflicts.
- Proactively manage system resources to ensure optimal performance and prevent outages.
- Implement and maintain robust security protocols, including access controls, vulnerability scanning, and incident response procedures.
- Oversee data backup processes and ensure efficient disaster recovery capabilities.
- Participate in network design, configuration, and maintenance, including troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
- Implement software updates and patches across the system while minimizing downtime.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations and procedures.
- Provide guidance and training to lower-level computer operators.
- Monitor hardware performance, software applications, and network connectivity to identify and address potential issues.
- Diagnose and resolve technical problems with computer systems and peripherals, often serving as the first point of contact for users experiencing issues.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backing up data and ensuring hardware is functioning correctly.
- Manage and organize data, including creating backups, ensuring data integrity, and implementing data recovery procedures.
- Provide technical support to users, answering questions, and assisting with software and hardware issues.
- Work with IT teams to implement new systems, troubleshoot problems, and ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Experience: Eight (8) years of progressive experience in computer systems operations.; Six (6) years of practical experience in data entry and formatting via common productivity tools such as the Microsoft Office Suite. ***Note: Experience may be concurrent.
- Solid understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking principles.
- Strong understanding of the inner workings of complex operating systems like Linux or Windows Server.
- Familiarity with server hardware components, including CPU, memory, storage, and networking devices.
- Proficiency in network protocols, routing, and switching technologies.
- Ability to write scripts to automate repetitive tasks and streamline system management.
- Knowledge of database management systems (DBMS) and SQL for managing large datasets.
- Awareness of security threats and mitigation strategies.
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
- Effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of precision when managing critical system components.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with users and IT staff.
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing situations.
- Certifications in areas like IT infrastructure or specific operating systems preferred.
Required Security Clearance:
- US Citizenship required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
- Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
