  SAIC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Writer with extensive experience developing United States Air Force (USAF) Technical Orders (TOs) in compliance with the latest USAF Technical Manual Contract Requirements (TMCRs). The individual will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in creating, revising, and managing technical documentation with a focus on effectiveness, accuracy, and usability to meet USAF mission requirements.

 The ideal candidate will also possess a comprehensive understanding of USAF datalink systems and will have hands-on experience with SAIC Joint Range Extension (JRE) software. This role involves collaboration with technical teams, program managers, and USAF stakeholders to deliver high-quality documentation that aligns with contractual, technical, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • USAF Technical Order Documentation:
    • Develop, edit, review, and maintain USAF Technical Orders (TOs) in full compliance with TMCR guidelines and MIL-STD-38784.
    • Ensure TOs meet content accuracy, formatting, and delivery requirements as outlined in the TMCR, including the use of precise language, safety standards, and integration with relevant system specifications.
    • Apply expertise in formatting TOs within SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) environments using Government-provided FOSI (Formatting Output Specification Instances) templates.
  • USAF Data Link Expertise:
    • Act as a technical liaison to collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders in supporting USAF datalink systems, focusing on operational requirements and capabilities.
    • Utilize extensive knowledge in USAF datalink systems and the SAIC Joint Range Extension (JRE) Gateway Software to ensure the accuracy and relevance of technical documentation.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with government clients, engineering teams, and program managers to ensure technical materials align with USAF and program objectives.
    • Communicate effectively to gather system specifications, operational parameters, testing procedures, and end-user feedback for inclusion in TOs.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance:
    • Perform thorough reviews of documentation to ensure strict compliance with USAF technical standards and best practices.
    • Participate in configuration management and validation/verification protocols to ensure all TOs are current, effective, and complete.
  • Other Duties:
    • Support deployment by providing user training and presentations as needed.
    • Travel up to 20% to engage with key stakeholders, conduct onsite evaluations, and support USAF operations as required.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in related field with 6 + Years of professional experience in technical writing, specifically authoring, revising, or managing USAF Technical Orders (TOs), Masters degree and 4 + Years of related experience. Years of experience in lieu of degree to be taken into consideration.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have an Active Secret Clearance
  • Expertise in USAF-specific technical writing standards and processes, especially compliance with the Technical Manual Contract Requirements (latest version) and MIL-STD-38784 formatting standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SGML and use of FOSI templates to edit/create compliant technical content.
  • Deep understanding and expertise in USAF datalink systems, both operationally and technically.
  • Prior hands-on experience with SAIC JRE Gateway Software, including implementation and operational documentation.

     

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Willing to travel up to 20% to CONUS or OCONUS locations for meetings, technical evaluations, or operational support as required.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Certifications: Technical Writing certifications or advanced training in SGML and DITA (Darwin Information-Typing Architecture) is a plus.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with DoD processes beyond the USAF, such as joint operations documentation or NATO standards.
  • Experience in developing interactive electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
  • Project Management experience (PMP or equivalent certifications preferred).
  • Experience with other USAF-specific software systems or networks related to datalink and communication.

 

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
