Description
San Diego Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists is seeking a dynamic and skilled Physician Assistant to join our Otolaryngology - Head & Neck team. The ideal candidate will collaborate with attending physicians to evaluate, plan, and provide comprehensive care to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently perform minor procedures such as cerumen removal, suture removal, incision and drainage of head, face, or neck abscesses, and intra-tympanic injections.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of clinical care.
- Code and bill procedures accurately in accordance with established protocols.
- Provide education to patients, their families, and others to enhance understanding of care.
- Train clinical staff in specialized areas as needed.
- Assist in surgeries and office-based procedures when needed.
- Conduct post-operative rounds and manage hospital patient discharges as needed.
- Incorporate considerations of healthcare access, cost-effectiveness, and quality in patient care.
- Advocate for patient safety and rights.
- Maintain confidential, HIPAA-compliant medical records.
- Share night and weekend call duties with other Physician Assistants in the practice.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document clinical information accurately.
- Order diagnostic tests and exams to inform patient care.
- Diagnose conditions and develop patient care plans based on assessments.
- Interpret diagnostic tests and exams to guide treatment decisions.
- Apply advanced clinical knowledge to ensure care is effective, timely, and cost-efficient.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the Physician Assistant Scope of Practice.
- Use clinical data to create individualized, age-specific care plans aligned with recognized standards of care.
Additional Skills/Requirements:
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently within a team environment.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, physicians, management, and staff.
- Sound judgment in emergency situations and the ability to take appropriate actions.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing medical education.
- Ability to network with referring providers and other healthcare representatives.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant Program.
- Minimum of 2 years of ENT experience preferred.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in California.
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
