Southwestern College invites applications from, and nomination of, accomplished, dynamic, and inspiring leaders for the position of Founding Director, Physician Assistant Program.

Job Description Summary:
The Program Director will be a visionary leader responsible for establishing and maintaining a high-quality Physician Assistant program. This role involves comprehensive program oversight, including student recruitment, curriculum development, faculty evaluation, and strategic planning. The Program Director will work closely with faculty, academic affairs, and external healthcare entities to ensure the program meets accreditation standards and prepares students for successful careers as Physician Assistants. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and collaborates with various departments to support student and program success.
Responsibilities:

  1. Program Leadership:
    • Develop and implement the strategic plan for the Physician Assistant program.
    • Ensure the program meets accreditation standards and maintains accreditation status.
  2. Curriculum Development:
    • Design and manage the curriculum, including clinical rotations.
    • Assess and plan program improvements.
  3. Student Recruitment and Support:
    • Recruit academically prepared students.
    • Support students in a rigorous graduate program.
  4. Faculty Management:
    • Evaluate faculty performance.
    • Foster a collaborative academic environment.
  5. Interprofessional Collaboration:
    • Facilitate collaboration with other departments and external healthcare entities.
    • Promote interprofessional education.
  6. Communication and Marketing:
    • Ensure effective day-to-day communication within the program.
    • Collaborate with Marketing and Admissions to enhance the program's visibility and attract prospective students.
  7. Fiscal Management:
    • Oversee the program's budget and resources.
  8. Community Engagement:
    • Build partnerships within the healthcare community and the college.
Qualifications:
  1. Education and Certification:
    • Master's degree in physician assistant studies with current NCCPA certification.
    • Licensed as a Physician Assistant.
  2. Experience:
    • At least three years of full-time higher education experience at the time of appointment.
    • Proven leadership ability in Physician Assistant studies.
    • Knowledge of the accreditation process for Physician Assistant programs.
  3. Skills and Abilities:
    • Visionary leadership and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
    • Ability to build partnerships within and outside the program.
  4. Commitment to Community and Service:
    • A strong commitment to serving the community and fostering student success.
