Job Description
Relationship Manager, Asset Manager Platform
Team: Black Diamond Investment Management (BDIM) — Partnerships
Reports to: Head of BDIM Business Development
About the Role
The Relationship Manager, Asset Manager Platform owns the front end of BDIM's third-party model provider program: sourcing asset manager partners, building senior relationships with them, and getting to signed contracts across both Model-Delivered and Manager-Traded SMA programs. This seat serves as the functional lead of BDIM's Partnerships effort and works in tandem with the Asset Manager Platform Enablement Coordinator, who owns the post-signature onboarding and monetization workstream.
The growth thesis is simple: BDIM doesn't scale by hiring more direct sellers. It scales by turning our asset manager partners' distribution organizations into an extension of BDIM's go-to-market. Your job is to build that leverage through establishing high-value relationships and turning them into signed agreements.
Why Join SS&C
SS&C combines proprietary technology with deep industry expertise to support complex financial and health care operations. Our teams design, implement, and operate solutions that help clients manage data, automate processes, and scale their businesses with confidence.
You will work with industry experts, modern platforms, and evolving technologies, gaining exposure to real-world operational challenges and large-scale enterprise environments.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Marketplace sourcing and contracting (owned directly)
- Source and vet SMA managers across Model-Delivered and Manager-Traded programs
- Prioritize by distribution reach, strategy fit, and RIA demand
- Negotiate commercial terms and drive each partner through to signed contract, in coordination with Legal
- Own partner-side contracting posture and marketplace visibility decisions (per-firm MADMIN vs. Advent Partnership Program)
- Hand off cleanly to the Asset Manager Platform Enablement Coordinator once signed, with full context on commitments made and expectations set
- Senior partner relationship ownership
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships at each partner firm — model desk leadership, distribution leadership, and executive sponsors
- Set the strategy for how each partner's distribution organization should activate BDIM (the Enablement Coordinator executes on the tactical side)
- Serve as the senior BDIM point of contact for each partner across the life of the relationship
- Partnerships function leadership
- Help set direction and priorities across the Asset Manager Platform function (this seat + the Enablement Coordinator) and coordinate with the Sr Partner RM – ETF/MF and Partner Ops
- Coordinate with BDIM Business Development, Client Product Managers (CPMs), Legal, and Operations on partner strategy and cross-functional decisions
- Represent the Partnerships function in BDIM leadership discussions
- Black Diamond Partnership team coordination
- Partner closely with the broader Black Diamond Partnership team on shared partner relationships and the Advent Partnership Program
- Align on platform-level partner engagement, joint outreach, and marketplace positioning so BDIM's SMA work leverages — and doesn't duplicate — Black Diamond's broader partnership motion
- Serve as the BDIM point of contact into Black Diamond Partnerships for model provider matters
- Commercial ownership at the relationship level
- Own program revenue growth attributable to partner selection, contract terms, and strategic relationship strength
- Represent BDIM externally at partner conferences and industry events
- Feed partner intelligence into BDIM product roadmap, Manager Research prioritization, and Recommended List decisions
Required Experience
- 5+ years in asset management partnerships, wholesale distribution, TAMP business development, or channel/relationship management
- Track record of building senior relationships at asset managers and closing multi-year commercial agreements
- Working knowledge of asset manager org structures: model desk vs. distribution, how wholesalers are measured, what makes a rep lead with a platform
- Familiarity with the RIA channel and TAMP economics
- Player-coach mindset: comfortable owning the day-to-day work directly while helping set direction across a small team
- Strong communication and negotiation skills — you'll run multiple partner conversations in parallel and represent BDIM externally at senior levels
KPIs
- SMA partners under signed contract (count and cadence vs. plan)
- Quality of book contracted (distribution reach × strategy fit)
- Time from first substantive conversation to signed contract
- Depth and seniority of BDIM relationships at each partner firm
- Contribution to third-party model program revenue growth
- Partner intelligence fed back into product, Manager Research, and Recommended List decisions
Why This Role
This is a scope-heavy role for someone ready to take a bigger step than a typical relationship manager or Business Development seat allows. You'll functionally lead BDIM's Partnerships effort, own the front end of a marketplace build-out from the ground up, and have direct line of sight to the growth engine of the business — without waiting through years of middle-management layers to get there.
