Position: Tooling Technician
Job Type: Full-time (40 Hours/Week), Non-Exempt, 1st Shift (M-F)
About the Role
We are seeking a Tooling Technician to support the build, finishing, maintenance, and repair of production and prototype thermoforming tooling used in automotive soft‑trim manufacturing. This role plays a critical part in ensuring tooling quality, production readiness, and continuous improvement within a fast‑paced automotive environment. You'll be part of a skilled tooling team supporting automotive programs from prototype through production. This role offers hands‑on work, technical growth, and the opportunity to contribute directly to product quality and manufacturing success.
- Build, finish, and polish production and prototype thermoforming tooling and components using hand tools and powered equipment
- Inspect tooling surfaces throughout the finishing process to ensure cosmetic and functional quality
- Perform routine service, preventative maintenance, and repairs on vacuum forming and thermoforming tools
- Assist with tooling changeovers and setups to support production schedules and minimize downtime
- Troubleshoot tooling‑related production issues and support continuous improvement efforts
- Support tool tryouts, debugging, and adjustments during new program launches and engineering changes
- Perform minor tooling modifications, surface refinishing, and repairs as needed
- Maintain tooling organization, storage, and labeling to prevent damage and ensure traceability
- Assist with general shop maintenance, housekeeping, and 5S activities
- Follow all safety, quality, and work instruction requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3–5 years of experience in a tooling, manufacturing, or related industrial environment (benchwork, tool finishing, or polishing strongly preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship
- Comfort performing repetitive, detailed manual tasks
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to take initiative
- Background in Tool & Die, Maintenance, Carpentry, or similar skilled trades
- Experience with thermoforming or vacuum forming tooling
- Ability to read basic prints, tooling layouts, or work instructions
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to reach, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent use of small hand tools requiring fine motor skills
