Overview
We are seeking two seasonal Technical Apprentices to support work efforts noted under our Federal Highway Work Program and to maintain compliance with Federal Clean Water Act NPDES Permits.
Over the last few years, the Agency of Transportation has been working throughout the state to locate, inspect, and GPS inventory culvert and stormwater collection, conveyance, and treatment systems in our state highway right-of-way. This effort is critical to the asset management efforts of the Highway Division and the Agency's Transportation Separate Storm Sewer System (TS4) permit obligations.
These positions will use mobile GIS applications and work as a team to inspect and map drainage features and testing water samples at outfalls along our roadways and on VTrans owned land. The focus will be in the Addison County area with some travel to parts of Chittenden and Franklin counties.
This work requires the ability to traverse rough terrain alongside the state highway for long durations of time. Candidates should be comfortable with the use of Microsoft suite and preferably the ability to navigate using a mobile device such as an iPad.
These positions will be stationed in Berlin, VT out of the Dill Building. It is anticipated that these positions will work about 40 hours per week for about four months. intern, internship
Who May ApplyThis position, AOT Technical Apprentice III (Job Req #52246), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Duties are performed in office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. May be required on occasion to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded and/or steep terrain, or travel in boats. Field work may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions. Duties may require exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Minimum QualificationsOne (1) year of full-time college coursework in science, engineering, environmental studies, or related technical field.
OR
High school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year performing engineering/technical support tasks.
OR
Two (2) seasons working as an AOT Technical Apprentice II with the State of Vermont.
Current, valid driver's license required, and transportation may be required for field assignments.
