Overview

The Vermont Department of Public Safety (DPS) has an opening for an Accounting & Audit Analyst. You will perform training and financial monitoring to assist our state and federal grant recipients. Duties will include reviews of report submissions and single audit requirements, and may include internal auditing activities. Candidates should have strong analytical and communication skills, be able to work independently and as a team, and the ability to work on multiple activities. This position requires considerable research and review of program and financial compliance standards. 

 

This is a full-time position with the DPS Finance section. Most of the Finance section works remotely and teleworking is an option for this position. The selected candidate will be responsible for independently conducting and completing all audit assignments and presenting to the Audit Supervisor. The ideal candidate will be proficient with Microsoft excel, have excellent communication and analytical skills, and be capable of working independently with minor supervision. This position, Public Safety Accounting & Audit Analyst (#51180), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a Limited Service position required for receiving federal award funding and is therefore renewed bi-annually. The current position is authorized through 07/14/2027.

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle/Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).

Environmental Factors

Duties may be performed in a standard office setting or by working remotely. Audits are performed using Microsoft Office Teams or at the subgrantee location. Occasionally overtime work may be required. 

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. 

OR

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field AND two (2) or more years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial management.
