Overview

Join our team at the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration (VSARA) as a Records and Information Management (RIM) Technician! VSARA RIM Technicians are responsible for administrative and technical support to the daily operations of the State Records Center and State Archives Vaults, which serve all three branches of Vermont state government.  

 

Minimum requirements include ability to physically lift, shelve and retrieve incoming and outgoing boxes of paper records weighing up to forty pounds on a daily basis; operate a forklift, pallet jack, and ladder; and work at elevated levels.

 

Ideal candidates at this level are also skilled in a data entry and using databases and other technologies; have great attention to detail and general knowledge of warehouse operations and procedures; and can initiate and sustain cooperative relationships with a wide variety of individuals encountered during work activities. A valid driver's license may also be required. 

 

What Will You Do?

  • Under general mentorship and supervision of a higher-level RIM Technician, a RIM Specialist and/or an administrative supervisor, you will:
  • Process, barcode and shelve incoming boxes of paper records. Single deliveries may consist of 300 or more boxes in any given month. 
  • Retrieve boxes or files from boxes when requested by verifying credentials of persons requesting records, preparing records for shipping, and documenting chain of custody.
  • When boxes of records are eligible and ready for destruction, retrieve boxes, verify eligibility for destruction, and prepare box contents for secure shredding by a vendor. 
  • Prepare, review, and process forms and other documentation, recommend action or review of internal control protocols as needed, and perform related records and information management duties as required.
  • Compile statistical information regarding repositories/systems and retrievals, transfers, and destructions.

As of July 14, 2024, the step 1 rate for pay grade 20 will be $22.49 per hour.

Environmental Factors

Work may be performed in a standard office or physical records repository setting and incumbents may be required to lift and move boxes of records weighing up to forty pounds on a frequent basis. 
Driving a fork lift and working at elevated levels on a ladder or hydraulic lift may be a part of the normal work activity depending on the repository.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years or more professional records and information management (RIM) technician or related work experience.
