Description

The CFO is responsible for all accounting, regulatory, tax, portfolio valuation, financial reporting, investor reporting, and office operations for the firm. The individual will manage all external audits, tax and servicer relationships of the firm. The individual will be responsible for creating and maintaining all financial policies and procedures of the firm. The individual will assist with investment funding, monitoring of portfolio company performance, investor relations, capital calls, and firm distributions. In addition, the individual will have responsibility for the firm's office, administrative and general infrastructure needs. This role will be responsible for Venture Funds within North Atlantic Capital Management, a Stifel Company, but will also be responsible for the legacy North Atlantic Capital Corporation Funds and management company. 



What We're Looking For

• Coordinate finance activities including quarterly reporting for the funds, tax compliance and financial reporting
• Responsible for Fund and legacy management company accounting, budgeting, cash flow management, and other financial analyses for the legacy management company
• Responsible for SBIC regulatory filings (468, 1031, etc.) and SBIC examinations
• Ensure that accurate, timely analysis and reporting of financial information in line with the firm's goals and objectives
• Oversee preparation of fund financial statements; supervise fund audits and tax matters
• Oversee fund administrator; review fund administrator prepared reporting.
• Work with the analysts at the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Department of War to ensure compliance applicable regulations.
• Cash management, including monitoring cash balances, capital requirements, investment funding, manage reserves, etc.
• Contribute to business/operational due diligence prior to investment
• Prepare and review complex schedules, including management fees, carried interest, and waterfall calculations
• Oversee and advise on appropriate tax strategies for funds and the General Partners
• Collection, review and maintenance of portfolio company financials and reporting
• Prepare portfolio company valuations in accordance with GAAP and SBIC standards
• Oversee capital calls, distributions and other communications with limited partners
• Identify and stay abreast of changes in GAAP and SBIC Regulatory Guidelines that impact the firm's accounting and reporting
• Assist in Limited Partners relationships, investor meetings, due diligence and fundraising
• Contribute to briefing and management of external legal counsel in preparation and review of complex legal agreements, including limited partnership agreements and portfolio company deal documents
• Oversight of various firm administrative and office needs, including legacy management company benefits and other aspects of human resources, IT, facilities, office leases, supply agreements, office management
• Prepare and present board presentations, financials, and forecasts for the Board of Advisors
• Work closely with external parties, including auditors and tax professionals, attorneys, fund administrators, limited partners and portfolio company CEOs/CFOs

 



What You'll Bring

• Strong background in accounting; CPA (Preferred)
• Experience and comfort analyzing and following complex regulations, including tax regulations
• Commitment to excellence (zero tolerance for errors) in all external communications
• Strong communications skills (written, verbal & presentation)
• Desire to seek continuous improvement in the organization's processes and output
• Experience working in a position which involved managing banking relationships (ideally through a capital raising process) and outside stakeholders, and/or interfacing directly with principals through an investment process
• Corporate transaction experience highly desirable (particularly with direct exposure to business diligence issues and post-acquisition responsibility)
• Experience working as CFO or Controller in a small/medium size company environment is preferred
• Prior experience working in a senior financial position of a private equity/investment management firm is desirable, but not required
• Demonstrated analytical, accounting/financial, and communication skills
• Ability to develop strong relationships with a wide variety of audiences
• Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a small team



Education & Experience

• Minimum Required: Bachelors' degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA Preferred.
• Minimum Required: 10+ years of experience in a leadership role within a financial services industry
• Prior experience working in a position that involved managing banking relationships (ideally through a capital raising process) and outside stakeholders, and/or interfacing directly with principals through an investment process.
• Corporate transaction experience (particularly with direct exposure to business diligence issues and post-acquisition responsibility) is preferred.
• Prior experience working as CFO or Controller in a small/medium size company environment is preferred.
• Prior experience working in a senior financial position of a private equity/investment management firm is preferred.
