Description
Stifel's 250-member Municipal Securities Group is seeking a junior fixed-income trader to join our Municipal Capital Markets trading desk in Los Angeles, which includes taxable, tax-exempt, and high-yield municipal sales and trading. The candidate will join the Taxable Municipal Trading team and be trained as a junior municipal bond trader, working directly with the Head of Taxable Municipal Trading. The position will quickly gain a working knowledge of trading systems and information dissemination tools and, with increasing responsibility, will manage customer inquiries, process transactions, and coordinate internal and external communication. This role requires diligent oversight of risk positions and trading platforms and a demonstrated ability to multi-task, communicate clearly, and operate decisively in a fast-paced environment.
- Develop expertise in trading and communication systems.
- Monitor market information from internal and third-party systems to ensure key data is distributed to sales and trading team members.
- Gain an increasing proficiency in hedging, risk, and position management.
- Monitor financial markets and economic trends to identify trading opportunities and evaluate risks.
- Manage client inquiries, establish competitive offering prices, and ensure accurate representation on trading platforms.
- Handle customer requests effectively, including pricing determinations and offering accuracy across trading platforms.
- Take on increasing responsibility for managing trading book, position, and execute trades.
- Assist with implementing new technology and communication tools across FICM (Fixed Income Capital Markets).
What We're Looking For
- Some trading desk experience, intermediate knowledge of markets, and trading acumen are preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, operate under pressure, and effectively manage priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Collaboration across teams internally, ensuring seamless resolution of trading settlements and discrepancies.
- Ability to continuously learn and willingness to be trained.
- Prior knowledge of market and trading systems is preferred.
- Some travel will be required over time.
Education & Experience
- Minimum Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum Required: 0-2 Years of experience.
Licenses & Credentials
- Minimum required: FINRA SIE, Series 7 and 63 within the first six months of employment.
Systems & Technology
- Proficient in Microsoft 365: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
