Description

The Sponsor Finance Credit Analyst Intern will join the Sponsor Finance Group at Stifel, gaining hands-on experience in credit analysis and financial due diligence to support the team in determining borrower creditworthiness. This group provides senior cash flow financing to private equity sponsors investing in middle-market companies across various industries within the U.S. This internship offers an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of M&A-related deal execution, financial modeling, and portfolio management in a real-world setting.

 



What We're Looking For

  • Assist with the initial evaluation of new transaction opportunities.
  • Help create due diligence question lists and conduct research on the industry, company, and the private equity sponsor's value creation strategy.
  • Analyze financial statements and assist in developing cash flow projection models for financing opportunities.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of credit approval memorandums.
  • Organize and manage transaction data flow, including diligence materials, legal documentation, and compliance reporting.
  • Participate in day-to-day portfolio management activities, including communication with CFOs, controllers, private equity deal teams, and internal risk managers.
  • Assist in preparing updates, quarterly reviews, and annual review reports.
  • Coordinate with Stifel's Investment Bankers and Equity Research team for valuation and opportunity assessments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure proper administration of loan agreements.
  • Conduct research and prepare portfolio metrics and presentation materials for special projects.


What You'll Bring

  • Basic understanding of economic and accounting principles, financial markets, and financial statement analysis.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in prospective deals.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work with various data sources and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable working with team members and senior professionals.
  • Ability to think logically, approach challenges creatively, and adhere to regulatory standards.


Education & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. Junior level preferred.


Licenses & Credentials

  • Minimum Required: None


Systems & Technology

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
