Description
The USAID-funded global Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Partnerships and Learning for Sustainability (WASHPaLS) #2 project, implemented by Tetra Tech International Development, is currently accepting expressions of interest for three WASH Country Leads to support a short-term technical WASH assignment. Each position will be based in one of the following countries: Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Madagascar, and Niger.
Project Description/Summary: The purpose of this assignment is to assess the effectiveness and sustainability of various sanitation approaches in resilience contexts for the development of strategic guidance, with a specific focus on the DRC, Madagascar, and Niger. The WASH Country Lead will assist the Team Lead and Sanitation Specialist to assess the effectiveness and sustainability of select sanitation approaches, focusing on their ability to be adapted to and mitigate challenges posed by implementation in resilience contexts, including population mobility. These positions will involve field work including but not limited to key informant interviews (KIIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) to collect data that respond to the assessment questions and contributions to the recommendations provided at the end of the assessment.
Responsibilities:
* Serve as the in-country point of contact for the Team Leader, including building and maintaining relations with principal study counterparts in country, such as government stakeholders.
* Conduct research activities in the three focus countries, including (1) supporting the development and implementation of the qualitative study design, (2) providing country specific contextual support to Team Leader, and (3) conducting KIIs and FGDs as well as utilizing other data collection tools to respond to assessment questions.
* Contribute to the development of the field evaluation slide-deck and strategic evaluation.
* Participate in project communications (attend weekly meetings to provide technical insight and feedback as requested) and provide weekly feedback as requested.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
* Minimum master's degree or equivalent and 10 years' experience in WASH.
* Strong research skills with demonstrated experience in contributing to the development and dissemination of data analysis and technical documents designed for global audiences.
* Demonstrated in depth knowledge of WASH systems and sanitation services in one of the three focus countries and experience participating in similar international programming or study efforts.
* Experience with data collection tools such as KIIs and FGDs.
* Demonstrated fluency in English.
* Ability to travel within the three focus countries is required.
* Nationals of DRC, Niger, and Madagascar strongly encouraged to apply.
