Job Description
The FAA is seeking a Systems Engineer to serve as a Cloud DevOps Engineer. This role combines hands-on technical support with cloud engineering and design responsibilities, ensuring that FAA systems are secure, scalable, and reliable. The engineer will play a key role in automating infrastructure provisioning, optimizing CI/CD pipelines, and supporting FAA mission systems across hybrid cloud environments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities -Essential Job Functions may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Architect and implement cloud-based solutions that align with FAA enterprise requirements. 
  •  Develop and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks using Terraform and CloudFormation. 
  •  Design and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and Jenkins for secure and efficient application delivery. 
  •  Support FAA system modernization by recommending tools, processes, and architectures for automation and DevOps adoption.

     

  •  Automate provisioning, configuration, and scaling of cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP. 

     

  • Provide day-to-day operational support, including troubleshooting, patching, and performance tuning of cloud based systems.

     

  •  Manage containerized applications and services with Docker and Kubernetes. 

     

  •  Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to ensure high availability and rapid response to issues. 

     

  • Apply FAA and federal security standards (NIST, FedRAMP) in all system configurations and deployments. 

     

  • Partner with developers, architects, and security teams to deliver integrated DevOps solutions. 

     

  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architecture diagrams to support knowledge sharing and continuity. 

     

  • Contribute to FAA cloud governance, best practices, and process improvement initiatives.

     

     

     

    Required Qualifications - A successful candidate will have

     

  • 7+ years of progressive IT systems engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on cloud or DevOps engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience automating infrastructure provisioning with Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab and Jenkins.
  • Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency with Linux and Windows system administration in enterprise environments.
  • Strong scripting/programming skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms (CloudWatch, ELK, Grafana, Prometheus).

     

     

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within FAA, federal government, or aviation IT systems.
  • Familiarity with FAA cybersecurity standards, NIST 800-53, and FedRAMP.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to Zero Trust architectures and advanced cloud security solutions.

  • Position is: Completely Remote

     

  • Background check: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • Physical Requirements

     

    • Extended Computer Use: Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal.
    • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance.
    • Mobility: Ability to move around the office environment to access computer hardware, networking equipment, and server rooms.
    • Dexterity: Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision.
    • Sitting/Standing: Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues.

     

    • Primarily computer-based work; meetings or collaboration may be required.
    • Outdoor work with exposure to variable weather conditions

Compensation (Pay Bands)  
Salary at LST is determined by a wide array of factors, such as (but not limited to) education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. 
The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and is based on full-time, 40 hour/week status. Part-time staff receive compensation at an hourly rate. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represents the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements) and is just one component of LSTs total compensation package for employees. ** In compliance with local laws, LS Technologies presents this reasonable compensation range as a guideline for roles in California, Colorado, New York, or Washington D.C."
