The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Construction Field Technician to our Transportation team based in Brighton, Michigan. This role supports construction oversight and field coordination for infrastructure projects, working closely with contractors, owners, and internal project teams to help ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately, and in accordance with contract requirements.

Position Summary:
The Construction Field Technician provides on-site construction observation and documentation support for transportation and utility-related infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, and paving work. This role serves as a key liaison between project stakeholders while ensuring construction activities conform to contract documents and quality standards.
Essential Job Functions:

• Perform daily observation and documentation of construction activities, including subcontractor work.
• Maintain daily reports, including measurements, calculations, quantities, and written narratives of work completed.
• Verify construction activities conform to approved plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Maintain redline drawings to support preparation of construction record drawings.
• Serve as a site liaison between the owner and contractor.
• Provide public engagement support related to site access and construction progress updates.
• Adhere to company policies, including safety, public relations, and employment practices.
• Support projects involving water mains, sanitary sewer systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and paving.
Required Qualifications:
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in active construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience in construction inspection, field observation, or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with civil construction plans, specifications, and quantity tracking.
• Experience working on water, wastewater, or transportation-related projects.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work extended or irregular hours based on construction schedules and seasonal demands.
• Ability to traverse uneven or rough terrain and perform moderate physical activity, including occasional climbing of ladders and entry into trenches.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
• Primarily outdoor construction environments with exposure to varying weather conditions.
• Work around heavy construction equipment, active job sites, and moderate to high noise levels.
• Potential exposure to hazardous materials, confined spaces, heights, and air or waterborne contaminants.
Additional Information:
• Employment Type: Full-time, regular position.
• Work Schedule: Variable hours based on construction schedules; occasional extended or irregular hours may be required.
• Travel Requirements: Periodic travel of approximately 15% or more may be required.
• Work Location: Brighton, Michigan, with frequent field presence at project sites.
