The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity as a Construction Project Monitor with Tetra Tech's team of scientists and engineers. We are currently seeking an experienced Construction Project Monitor with expertise in monitoring, inspection, and documenting of various construction projects including site restoration and remediation, remedial system construction, site grading, road construction, heavy equipment operations, stormwater management and control, irrigation and pumping system installation, and landscaping. Position responsibilities include field inspections, contractor submittals review and approval, construction plan review, and construction progress inspections.

The Construction Project Monitor will provide construction inspections commensurate with their existing training and experience, while being encouraged to take advantage of Tetra Tech's project management training program. The successful candidate will execute construction inspections with a strong emphasis on safety, communication, and operation optimization. This position would require on-site work at project locations adjacent to the Salton Sea. This position will report to the Tetra Tech San Bernardino office; however, the work will be a remote job assignment supporting the Salton Sea project. Applicants must reside within 50 miles from the Salton Sea either in Imperial or Riverside counties.

Your Role:

The Construction Project Monitor will have the opportunity to work on a variety of construction projects including site restoration and remediation, water resources, site development, and contaminated site remediation. Market sectors the Construction Project Monitor will work with may include state and Federal funded watershed resiliency and impact mitigation, site restoration, biological assessment, and stormwater control. The position will include duties such as:

  • Site reconnaissance and on-site evaluation of various governmental, construction sites.

  • Preparation of daily reports of project activities.

  • Development of bid specifications and contract documents.

  • Construction oversight.

  • Review of contractor submittals.

  • Prepare responses to contractor requests for information (RFI) and design change requests (DCR) and other similar construction management and monitoring documentation.

  • Review of construction designs and plans.

  • Construction cost tracking and review of contractor invoice.

  • Data compilation, review, and evaluation.

  • Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills are required.

  • The position will require field work (approx. 90%-100% of the time will be at client site), typically related to construction oversight, field investigation, and site reconnaissance.

Qualifications:

  • HS diploma required with 10 years of construction monitoring experience. Alternatively, candidates with a B.S. degree in Geology, Biology, or related scientific or construction related field will require 5 years of construction monitoring experience.

  • Ability to perform and lead field data collection and construction and reclamation oversight on state and Federal lands and facilities, commercial, and industrial sites (approx. 90%-100% field work required).

  • Ability to correctly read and interpret engineer design drawings and as-builts.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction specifications

  • Strong skills and proficiency with computer systems including ability to use a Tetra Tech-supplied electronic logging software to document daily activities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred, or ability to acquire.

  • Training and certification as a construction Stormwater professional as a QSP or QSD preferred, or ability to acquire.

  • Ability to work outdoors for long hours in a high-heat desert environment is a must.

  • Must be able to traverse large terrain carrying equipment and materials (up to a 50lb weight), over uneven ground, in all weather conditions.

  • Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions. 

 

Target salary range:  $30.00 / hour to $50.00 / hour.  Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
