Your Role:
Tetra Tech is actively seeking a highly motivated Intern for employment in the Chantilly, VA office. Tetra Tech is searching for candidates that have the willingness to learn new tasks and assist in administrative and scientific tasks that will support meaningful and substantive work products.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with field data collection, including surface water sampling.
- Collect and enter data for evaluation by senior project staff.
- Assist with report production and file management activities.
- Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
- Conduct research for ongoing projects, including review of regulations and permits, work plans, or other documents.
- Update websites using Content Management Systems (CMS). Knowledge of HTML is beneficial.
Qualifications:
Skills in the ideal candidate include but are not limited to:
- Knowledge of data collection and tabulation in preparation of scientific documents.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite with experience in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access
- Ability to format and produce reports as well as the ability to maintain file management.
- Attention to detail is required.
- Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude.
- The successful candidate is able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format and make evaluated decisions.
- The successful candidate will work as a problem solver, will have an interest and ability to work in a collaborative manner, and will have the flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
- Must be able to manage time well and work on tasks as part of a larger project team.
- Experience in GIS and databases are preferred.
- A strong drive to succeed and professional approach to work are required.

- Must have a strong health and safety ethic.
- In addition to English, fluency in other languages will be considered a plus.
- Candidate should be self-motivated and able to take directions.
Education and Certifications:
Currently in pursuit, or recently obtained, a BS/BA or MS in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, chemistry, or other scientific field).
- Candidate must have successfully completed at least two years of study towards a degree (Juniors, Seniors, and recent grads)
- Completion of six courses in a relevant scientific discipline described above.
- GPA of 3.1 or higher.
Physical Demands:
- Candidate must be able to walk large project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras) during field work.
- Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions, and can occur in remote locations and include areas of uneven terrain or occur during harsh weather.
- Field sampling and monitoring may include various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air).
- Candidate must be able to sit at a desk / computer in an office environment for office-based tasks.
