The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding an Environmental Scientist/Regulatory Specialist to join our established and growing team, supporting projects in renewable and commercial energy generation, transmission, transportation, and other federal and state programs in the Southeast.

 

In this role, you'll work in a positive, team-focused environment to help Tetra Tech's Project Managers meet the diverse environmental regulatory compliance needs of our clients. Your Role:

  • Assist or serve as a technical lead on various resource management planning projects.
  • Conduct due diligence and manage local, state, and federal permitting processes for projects, including writing permit documents, NEPA documents, mitigation plans, and other compliance documents.
  • Support project development, including work scopes, proposals, and cost estimates, and develop compliance strategies.
  • Represent clients in negotiations with regulatory agencies, ensuring high technical competence in all work products.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop innovative approaches to project permitting and assessment.

  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

  

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in environmental science/policy, natural resource planning, biology, ecology, geography, or a related field.
  • 1-5 years of experience in environmental consulting.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with ESA (Sections 7 and 10), USFWS consultation processes, CWA (Sections 401 and 404), and other state-specific environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with environmental impact assessment fundamentals; experience preparing NEPA documentation (EISs, EAs, Categorical Exclusions) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • A self-starter with the ability to identify daily needs and assist as necessary to complete tasks.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
