The Role:
The Food Technologist will provide technical assistance (remotely) on local production of nutrient dense/fortified food and fortified rice-based products by selected 3-5 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Its main objective is to empower SMEs to produce local nutrient-dense foods sustainably and consumers can access nutrient-dense food at affordable price in the local market. The role will work with local SMEs to enhance capacity through coaching and mentoring, and provision of technical advice.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the launch of the Call for Application (CFA), including setting up the selection criteria for SMEs, announcing the CFA through relevant communication platforms, and engaging with both members and non-members involved in producing healthy and nutritious food products
- Oversee the onboarding and orientation process for selected SMEs, including conducting individual discussions to assess their needs, challenges, and product ideas
- Design, develop, and customise training modules to address gaps and opportunities in product development for nutrient-dense or fortified foods
- Coordinate and deliver interactive online training sessions, ensuring engagement and progress monitoring for SMEs
- Implement a framework to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the training programs, ensuring that SME progress is tracked and documented
- Prepare a final evaluation report with insights, achievements, and recommendations for further SME development and supply chain readiness in the local food sector
Selection criteria
- Have a strong background in food processing technology (mainly on the following production line of value-added nutrient dense/fortified food and/or fortified rice-based snack, porridge, noodle and soup)
- Ability to design, develop and customise training modules and tools for capacity-building
- Well-experienced in local SMEs capacity enhancement especially in developing countries
- Strong knowledge of WFP nutrition guideline and SUN Business Network's standing point
- Excellent presentation skills including the ability to speak confidently to stakeholders about WFP and the SUN movement mandate and activities
- Excellent interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to work across multiple priorities
