We are looking for a Talented Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Engineer who is interested in relocating to Thunder Bay, Ontario to join our growing office.

Our Mechanical Engineers work within and lead multidiscipline project teams. These teams can be centered locally within the Thunder Bay office or in collaboration with complimentary offices spanning locations across the company. The position will report directly to the local Mechanical Staff Manager. Our Mechanical Engineers are key technical resources to our engineering teams on all projects.
Locally, we are a high functioning, multidisciplinary project team of engineers, project managers, specialists, technologists, designer/drafters, and supporting staff. We specialize in mid-sized sustaining and new capital projects, however, are involved in projects of a wide range and scale for clients across Canada and the globe. At our core, we are a team of skilled problem solvers with a goal to add value to our clients, their businesses, and ours. We develop project-specific teams and methodologies to accomplish our goals.
Our work spans varied market sectors however these typically focus on:
- Mining and Mineral Processing
- Heavy Industrial Facilities
- Remote Community Water Treatment and Power Generation
- Municipal and Energy Utilities
Responsibilities:
- Trusted to take professional and technical responsibility while developing safe and efficient designs and specifications, while ensuring designs meet all local codes, standards, and AHJ requirements
- Technical scope varies based on project rosters and can include:
- Industrial process improvements, layouts and equipment integration
- Fluid/slurry pumping and piping
- Solid and bulk material handling, conveying, crushing, etc.
- General mechanical machine design and platework
- Development/input to PFD and P&ID development
- Fuel storage and distribution
- HVAC, plumbing
- Integration with 3D scans and models
- Works under appropriate level of general supervision based on individual level of experience. Our approach is to leverage the skillsets we have, and work towards developing ones we may need
- Trusted to develop or provide sound input to project scope definition, execution/methodology, planning and resource requirements based on experience level
- Works both with and as a mentor to produce competent and accurate design packages
- Reviews and coordinates the development of supporting 3D models and 2D drawings with support from multidiscipline designer teams
- Take responsibility of or provide input to Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Follows established internal quality control and assurance procedures, best practices, and standards, however, is also encouraged to provide input to continuous improvements
- Typical engineering tasks can include:
- Project Management, Project Engineering, Project Discipline Lead Duties
- Engineering Proposals and Fee Estimates
- Mentoring
- Resource planning
- Capital Cost Estimates and Construction Schedules
- Equipment and Construction requisition packages including bid reviews
- Procurement and Construction Support
- Field assessments and measurements
- HAZOPs and Risk Assessment Facilitation
- Constructability Reviews
- Client relationship building
- Business Development
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years engineering work experience in a related field
- Current, practicing registration as Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers of Ontario, or eligibility for practicing registration
- Graduate of mechanical engineering degree program
- Working knowledge of 3D and 2D CAD software and related workflows for products similar to AutoCAD, CADWorx, Plant 3D, Revit, etc.
- Additional software experience including FEA, hydraulic, and energy modeling software, SolidWorks, Inventor, Caesar, AFT Fathom, Belt Stat, HAP, etc. are considered an asset
- Experience within any or all major project phases including Scoping, Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, Detailed Design, Commissioning, Field Engineering, Contract Administration and Construction Support
- Specific engineering experience such as mining, mineral processing, materials handling, industrial plant and machinery layout and integration, mine hoisting, ventilation, and dewatering and/or NI 43-101 compliant studies are considered an asset
- Proficient with MS Office Suite, or similar productivity/collaborative and planning software
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
Periodic travel within Canada to client sites and regional Tetra Tech offices may be required. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing and background checks may be required for our client worksites. As this position may be serving clients that have vaccination requirements for site access, we may be confirming your eligibility to comply with this requirement.
