Your Role
The selected candidate will lead archaeological fieldwork including pedestrian surveys and shovel testing as part of a team or individually. Fieldwork will be in the Midwest, Upper Midwest, and Northern Great Plains. Additional responsibilities include drafting reports for conducted fieldwork, making eligibility determinations, and coordinating with state or federal agencies.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience working in the Midwest, Upper Midwest, and Northern Great Plains. The selected candidate must also have/be:
- Completed fieldwork, reporting, and agency coordination with a State Historic Preservation Office(s) or Federal Agency(s) in the past 3 years.
- Comfortable working in harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain (i.e., extreme heat or cold, high winds, all forms of precipitation).
- Currently reside in the Twin Cities Metro Area of Minnesota.
- Able to have flexibility in scheduling due to changing field conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently with limited supervision as well as part of a team.
- Possess strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment.
- Familiarity with data collection using ESRI Survey 123, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS Online.
- Experience drafting technical reports within budget and schedule (writing samples will be required for review).
In addition, this position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Degree / Certifications
MS or MA degree in archaeology or anthropology with focus on archaeology is required.
Work Environment
This position requires roughly 50% travel.
The work environment will consist of both office and fieldwork. Ideally, the position would be a 50/50 split of office and fieldwork but will vary based on project requirements. Fieldwork may require overnight stays and may occur in all seasons.
Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions and can occur in remote locations and include areas of uneven terrain. The selected candidate must be able to walk up to 10-15 miles a day around project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 20 pounds of equipment such as maps, shovels, screens, GPS unit, and cameras during field work.

The Salary Range for this position is $50,000 - $70,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
