Position Summary:

The Process Engineer – EIT will assist in the design and analysis of water and wastewater treatment systems, distribution and collection networks, and associated infrastructure. Working under the direction of senior engineers and project managers, this role supports technical design, modeling, and construction documentation for municipal clients nationwide.

 

Essential Job Functions:

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Support the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including PFAS, filtration, and disinfection systems.

  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and reports in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Perform design calculations, process modeling, and equipment sizing for water and wastewater processes such as GAC, ion exchange (IX), and reverse osmosis (RO).

  • Assist with hydraulic modeling and analysis for pipelines, pumping systems, and distribution networks.

  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and pilot testing to support design validation and project delivery.

  • Work with project managers and senior engineers to meet project goals, schedules, and technical standards.

  • Support the preparation of permit packages and documentation for regulatory submittals.

  • Collaborate closely with civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers across Tetra Tech offices.

  • Contribute to the development of innovative, practical solutions for complex water challenges.

  • Demonstrate continuous learning and a commitment to professional development.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering.

  • 3–6 years of experience in water and/or wastewater engineering (internship or co-op experience acceptable).

  • Strong interest in treatment process design, hydraulics, and infrastructure development.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to technical accuracy and clarity.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Enthusiasm for learning, teamwork, and building a long-term career in water infrastructure.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (or in progress).

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and process modeling software such as BioWin or GPS-X.

  • Exposure to PFAS, GAC, IX, or RO treatment systems.

  • Experience preparing design documents or supporting field work for municipal infrastructure projects.

  • Understanding of water quality, permitting, or regulatory requirements.

 

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods working at a desk and using a computer. Occasional walking, standing, climbing, or lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Fieldwork may include exposure to outdoor environments, uneven terrain, or construction activity.

 

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

Work will primarily be performed in an office setting with occasional field assignments. Field activities may involve exposure to variable weather conditions, construction sites, and moderate noise levels.

 

CA Salary: $77,000- $95,000 dependent on experience
