We are looking for an individual with a passion for the natural sciences to join our team. Specific experience in wetland assessment, vegetation, and soil classification is required.  The successful applicant will be a professional biologist and authenticating wetland professional and can bring their experience to our public and private sector clients. As well, this position offers an opportunity for a Leadership role, for the right candidate. Although the position will be based in Edmonton, we anticipate working on projects throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Northern Canada.

 

 

Your Role:

  • Leading a team of biologists and ecologists in conducting biophysical assessments with a focus on vegetation, wetlands, and soils.
  • Lead the regulatory coordination and permitting of projects in a dynamic work environment, have strong critical thinking capabilities, and have a flexible approach to problem-solving.
  • Project manage multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Frequent and effective interaction with clients, regulatory agencies, other team members, and the public.
  • Preparing reports related to siting evaluation, environmental planning/permitting, environmental reviews, environmental protection/mitigation plans.
  • Prepare proposals including scopes of work, cost estimates and formal proposal submissions.
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and technical experts in biology and environmental science.
  • Lead, mentor, and support junior team members.
  • Travel to project sites across Western Canada (occasional).
  • Contributing to ongoing project management best practice implementation.
  • Staying current on technical and sector-based trends and legislation at the municipal, provincial and national level.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology, environmental sciences or a related field.
  • Professional designation (i.e., P.Biol or equivalent), with a minimum of 12 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge and practice in wetlands in the Prairies including assessments, mitigation and monitoring.
  • Be a wetland practitioner as directed under the Alberta Wetland Policy and either being an Authenticating Professional or on track towards the Authenticating Professional designation.
  • Experience with regulatory and stakeholder consultation, coordinating with technical teams and contractors, leading technical deliverables, and supporting public consultation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with industry standard resources, tools and best practices as well as provincial environmental legislation and policy (proficiency under municipal and federal jurisdictions is considered an asset).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public. 
  • Public consultation experience is an asset.
  • A strong track.
