Position Summary:
The Roadway Design Engineer, EIT supports the design and development of roadway and transportation projects, including local roadways, highways, multi-use paths, and traffic control systems. This role contributes to technical design tasks, modeling, and field coordination in support of safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions.

Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
    • Assist with the design of highway, arterial, and local roadway improvements.
    • Develop roadway geometry, signing, pavement marking, traffic signal, and maintenance of traffic plans.
    • Prepare roadway 3D models using applicable design software.
    • Develop quantity calculations and engineer's cost estimates.
    • Conduct site visits to support data collection and the design process.
    • Prepare alternative evaluation studies, technical memoranda, and similar reports.
    • Collaborate with project teams and technical specialists to support project delivery.

Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
    • Entry-level to up to five (5) years of relevant transportation or roadway design experience.
    • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a transportation focus.
    • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D.
    • EIT certification with intent to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
    • Prior internship or consulting experience in transportation or roadway design.

Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
    • Ability to perform light to moderate physical activity during site visits, including walking on uneven terrain.
    • Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to approximately 25 pounds.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:
    • Combination of office-based work and periodic field/site visits.
    • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during site visits.
    • Standard office environment with moderate noise levels.

Additional Information:
    • Employment Type: Full-time, regular position.
    • Work Schedule: Standard business hours with occasional flexibility based on project needs.
    • Travel Requirements: Approximately 15% or more periodic travel may be required to support site visits and project coordination.
    • Work Location: Brighton, Michigan (office-based with field work as required).
