The Opportunity
The Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC), based in Brisbane, underpins Australia's rapid humanitarian response across the Indo‑Pacific. As a Warehouse Operator, you will support the daily operations of the HLC warehouse—picking, packing, receiving, dispatching, and maintaining a safe and well‑organised environment.
You'll be part of a high‑performing logistics team responsible for managing the largest stockpile of pre‑positioned humanitarian supplies in the Southern Hemisphere. Your work will directly support communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, takes pride in accuracy and safety, and wants to contribute to meaningful global outcomes.
The Program: Humanitarian Logistics Capability (HLC)
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Humanitarian Logistics Capability provides timely, flexible, and effective humanitarian assistance globally. The HLC warehouse in Brisbane maintains prepositioned relief supplies that can support up to 55,000 people across multiple simultaneous crises.
Tetra Tech International Development, as the Implementing Contractor, works closely with DFAT, Commonwealth response agencies, international partners, and humanitarian organisations to deliver high‑quality, responsive supply chain and logistics operations.
Your Role
As a Warehouse Operator, you'll be at the heart of Australia's humanitarian response, helping move life‑saving relief supplies that support communities across the Indo‑Pacific. Every day brings something different — from preparing emergency kits for rapid deployment to ensuring the warehouse is ready to respond at a moment's notice. Working with a passionate team, you'll operate equipment, manage stock, and keep the warehouse running smoothly, all while contributing to a mission that genuinely makes a difference when it matters most.
A standard day might include:
- Pick and pack stock for dispatch following HLC procedures.
- Safely operate forklifts and warehouse equipment to load, unload, and store goods.
- Assist with truck and container loading/unloading, including manual handling.
- Use the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to record stock movements and maintain accuracy.
- Apply correct labelling, shelf‑life monitoring, and FIFO rotation.
- Support cycle counts, stocktakes, and general operational tasks whilst maintaining a safe and clean warehouse.
About You
You're someone who brings reliability, energy, and a strong sense of purpose to your work. With an eye for detail and a willingness to roll up your sleeves, you thrive in hands‑on environments where teamwork and safety come first. You're eager to learn, ready to take initiative, and comfortable in a fast‑paced, physically active role. Most importantly, you're motivated by being part of something bigger, knowing the work you do each day directly contributes to getting life‑saving supplies to people who need them most.
You will bring:
- Current and valid Australian driver's licence.
- Forklift licence (LF) highly desirable.
- Legal right to work in Australia.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a clear criminal history check (for secure freight access).
- Basic computer literacy (tablets, scanners, WMS), physically fit and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience in warehouse or logistics environments.
