The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding Waste Spot Checkers to our Solid Waste Management team based in Saskatoon, SK. Waste Spot Checkers will help educate residents by spot checking the recycling (blue) and the food and yeard waste (green) carts for each house. Waste Spot Checkers will be looking for contamination in both carts and inputting the information in a tablet. An orientation session and health and safety training will be provided.

This is a short-term (temporary) hourly position requiring about 30 hours of work per week. Work weeks are Monday - Friday from 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM (approximately) beginning September 15, 2025 to October 17, 2025. There is potential work (hours) for meetings, administrative tasks, and field preparation. These are tentative dates and minor adjustments may occur.

The pay for this position is $21.00 per hour. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

Your Role:

• Physically collecting and sorting through selected waste samples into several individual categories.
• Sample weighing, data entry, recording observations, and taking photographs.
• Work outside in varied weather conditions, with the ability to stand, lift, bend, and twist for long periods of time
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
• Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

• An understanding of and interest in current environmental and waste management issues.
• Be able to provide their own transportation to work sites in Saskatoon. Some sites may be accessible by public transit.
• Own CSA Green Triangle certified steel-toed boots (minimum 6” ankle height) or be able to acquire them before your first day; other personal protective equipment will be provided (e.g., high-vis vest and safety glasses).
• Working outside in varied weather conditions, with the ability to walk long distances and for long periods of time.
• Be able to practice safe lifting techniques (up to a maximum of 10 kg) over the course of a workday.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to interact with residents on a regular basis.
• Ability to exercise flexibility, good judgment, discretion while following safe work practices.
• Excellent attention to detail, and ability to work accurately and quickly to meet deadlines.
• Be punctual and able to start work early in the morning (6:00 am).
• Willingness to work in a team environment.
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Class 5 driver's license or equivalent (optional).
• Experience with waste composition studies and audits, environmental data collection, and/or other types of solid waste management work (optional).
