Summary of Job Duties: The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a licensed professional nurse with advanced clinical expertise who provides specialized patient care across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and surgical services. This position promotes a holistic approach to healthcare and functions as a clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher. The APRN adheres to the Nurse Practice Act of Arkansas and institutional policies to ensure safe, high-quality care and collaboration across interdisciplinary teams. This role is jointly positioned within UAMS and Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited program PLUS two (2) years of experience as an APRN in an inpatient hospital setting

Licensure/Certification:

  • Valid RN license and APRN license in the State of Arkansas (required)

  • National Certification in Pediatric Acute Care (required)

  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license (must be obtained post-hire)


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

Patient Care (Clinical, Inpatient, Surgical):

  • Obtain and document comprehensive patient histories and physical exams

  • Identify medical risks, order diagnostics, prescribe treatments, and educate patients/families

  • Provide inpatient care by managing labs, medications, procedures, and discharge planning

  • Conduct pre-operative evaluations, obtain consent, assist in surgery, and coordinate OR scheduling and follow-up

Education:

  • Participate in surgical conferences; instruct medical students, residents, and nursing staff

Research:

  • Assist with clinical data collection and patient enrollment for research protocols

  • Other duties as assigned
