Summary of Job Duties: The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Educational and Student Success Center (ESSC) is hiring a Faculty/Learning Specialist. UAMS, Arkansas' only comprehensive academic health sciences center, serves nearly 3,000 students and employs over 10,000 individuals across its colleges, medical center, and state-wide regional programs in Little Rock. The ESSC supports student and faculty success through services such as academic coaching, peer tutoring, test-taking strategies, and faculty development workshops. The Student Success Center and Office of Educational Development collaborate to address learning needs, faculty development, and course design, leveraging both face-to-face and online tools. The Faculty/Learning Specialist will assist students by developing personalized academic plans, facilitating workshops, coordinating peer tutoring, and applying innovative learning support strategies. This role integrates into the ESSC team to advance the Center's mission and objectives. The position is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure-track faculty role, reporting to the ESSC Director, with rank.
Qualifications:
Master's degree with an emphasis in adult education, counseling, education psychology or related field required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to track statistics regularly.
Excellent relational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience in higher education advising and counseling individuals about learning strategies and academic success.
Experience at an Academic Health Sciences Center.
Experience working with a peer tutoring or mentoring program.
Experience with and enthusiasm for working with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population within a university setting.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
Assist UAMS students with academic needs.
Meet one-on-one to develop a student-specific plan of action, training, and referral for peer tutoring.
Develop and host student and faculty workshops and other academic-related activities that support academic success.
Work as part of the ESSC team to further the mission and objectives of the Center and work to identify current trends in learning support and apply them in face-to-face and online environments.
Coach students on academic issues such as time management, study skills, test taking, test anxiety, etc. by making a student-specific plan of action and following up with students as needed.
Create, maintain, document, and present workshops and teaching modules covering topics such as time management, study skills, test taking, test anxiety, etc.
Contribute to the online presence of the ESSC by developing online modules, workshops, guides, etc.
Refer students to student-related services such as Peer Tutoring, Student Wellness, and Disability Services as appropriate.
Recruit, interview, schedule rooms, maintain paperwork for peer tutors; maintain connections and offer support to peer tutors.
Develop and maintain close working relationships with faculty and staff affiliated with academic programs by visiting classes, creating remediation plans, attending/hosting relevant meetings, providing written updates, etc.
Maintain relevance with learning theory and best practices as related to working in an educational setting.
Participate in scholarly publications and presentations related to work responsibilities.
Market the mission and services of the ESSC by participating in orientation sessions, campus tours, resource fairs, etc.
Maintain a friendly, working relationship with all members of the ESSC staff.
Maintain accurate statistics on work activities throughout the year; provide information promptly for ESSC reporting.
Participate in faculty activities such as facilitating Interprofessional Education activities and peer review.
Serve on campus-wide committees.
Participate in state, regional, and national professional organizations.
Collaborate with colleagues at other academic health centers.
Keep current on emerging trends in the provision of educational services.
