Summary of Job Duties: This posting will fill multiple positions:

Pharmacy Technician I/II/III work under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, the Pharmacy Technician I/II/III will support various operations of the department. They will assist the pharmacists in day-to-day dispensing operations, patient outreach, medication delivery and other facets of the program. The Pharmacy Technician must be able to take multiple deliveries to various areas of the hospital and campus each day. In addition to these duties, they may be utilized to assist with the everyday operations of the Outpatient Pharmacy including but not limited to dispensing, cycle counts, expired pulls, and point-of-sale customer care. The Pharmacy Technician I/II/III will prioritize work based on immediate need and rapidly changing workload. They will work as a team member to perform day-to-day work efficiently and accurately, along with any additional tasks or projects to help achieve departmental goals. According to the UAMS Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder, a Pharmacy Technician II/III may perform one of these specialized roles: automation, controlled substances, pharmacy buyer, investigational drugs, medication reconciliation, sterile compounding specialist, or WAM (retail) order entry. This position may also support operations of the vaccine clinics.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Level I:

  • High School Diploma or GED PLUS Pharmacy technician license through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Valid Driver's License

Level II:

  • Two (2) years of pharmacy technician work experience

  • Pharmacy technician license through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician  (CPhT)  issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

  • Valid Driver's License

Level III:

  • Three (3) years of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or retail setting

  • Pharmacy Technician License through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.

  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) issued by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PCTB)

  • Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and EMR experience)

  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. or higher degree

  • ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training

  • At least one year relevant pharmacy technician experience

  • Previous experience with 340B

  • Specialized certificate or certification (i.e. PTCB Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician, ASHP Sterile Compounding Certificate, 340B Certification, etc.)

  • Strong math skills; excellent communication & organizational skills

  • Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and EMR experience)


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Has exceptional understating of EPIC Willow Ambulatory and how to navigate

  • Performs basic pharmaceutical calculations

  • Gathers and dispenses medication in a timely and organized fashion

  • Assists pharmacists with patient outreach and answering phones when necessary

  • Communicates professionally and efficiently with patients

  • Delivers medication to patients in a timely and accurate manner

  • Maintains appropriate records and paperwork, electronically and/or paper

  • Able to professionally operate a car provided by the department for on campus patient deliveries

  • Promotes a safe working environment and maintains clean work surfaces in all dispensing areas 

  • Assists with dispensing of will call and other patient prescriptions when necessary and in downtime

  • Understands and complies with requirements of the 340B program

  • Complies with all departmental and institutional policies and procedures

  • Understands and follows USP <797> and <800>, as well as all other applicable standards, regulations, and policies related to sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling

  • Documents all cleaning activities and duties on the appropriate log sheets

  • Understands how to operate all equipment (CII safe, Parata Max, Rover, printers, etc)

  • Maintains Parata Max inventory levels, restocking when needed

  • Assists in weekly and monthly duties, such as cycle counts, return to stock drugs and expired drug pulls

  • Performs and documents monthly inspection of assigned clinical medication storage area

  • Promptly reports to supervisor or other appropriate individual if there are any deficiencies or problems with any equipment, facilities, or drug distribution

  • Cashier duties as assigned, adhering to HIPAA regulations and showing exceptional patient care

  • Assists pharmacists with answering phones when necessary, routing to appropriate area

  • Is primarily responsible for maintaining inventory of supplies for assigned work area, reporting to purchaser when stock is low

  • Helps ensures proper storage conditions for all medications

  • Restocks assigned areas daily or as needed

  • Rotates medications appropriately so that packages with the earliest expiration dates are used first

  • Removes expired drugs from assigned areas monthly

  • Assists with receiving, unpacking, and/or putting away deliveries and shipments of medications and supplies if necessary

  • Maintains order and cleanliness of all drug storage areas in the pharmacy

  • Contributes to weekly cycle counts as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned.
