Summary of Job Duties: The Wound Ostomy Registered Nurse has authority, responsibility and accountability for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of wound and ostomy care throughout UAMS. Functions primarily as a consultant; provides direct patient care and education to selected patients. Provides for staff development in areas of expertise. Responsible for product recommendations in areas of expertise. Maintains records and statistics reflecting role performance; participates in UAMS-wide committees and projects as indicated.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associates Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelors in Nursing, or Master's in Nursing. 3 or more years of nursing experience
Current licensure as RN
Strong leadership skills, ability to manage conflict in a variety of situations
Strong customer service orientation
Superior organizational skills
Advanced communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to align and motivate key process stakeholders, including nurses, physicians, and other clinical/administrative staff
Strong skills in MS Office and database software

Knowledgeable in Infection Control principles and guidelines
Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing or related field
Graduation from an accredited WOC Nursing Education Program
5 or more years of nursing/leadership experience in an academic, acute care institution
National Board certification in Wound and or Wound/Ostomy nursing.
Knowledge in Epic Medical Record System
Additional Information:
Provides independent consultation for wound/ostomy patients.
Follows protocols and treatment plans to evaluate and treat a variety of skin issues in the clinical setting
Reviews patient care and makes recommendations based on evidence-based practice
Collaborates with physician as needed for coordination of care and discharge planning
Educates staff on prevention and treatment of skin issues (assessment, intervention, evaluation) and ostomy care.
Placement of Wound Vacs as ordered by physician
Monitoring for proper utilization of Specialty Beds
Assists staff to maintain current knowledge and competence in areas of wound and ostomy care
Data collection/ Tracking/Surveillance
Assists in development and/or revision of policy/procedure/protocols as needed regarding wound and ostomy care
Participates in committee work
Conducts product evaluations when indicated to ensure evidence-based
Analyzes stock items for appropriate admissions/deletions to assure quality and cost-effectiveness of products used for wound/ostomy care
Manages/coordinates programs/projects related to wound and ostomy care
Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities
Uses sound judgement and adheres to Code of Ethics and Business Standards
Champions new initiatives; acts as a catalyst for change and manages implementation effectively
Identifies goals and vision for the team
