The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent job opportunity for individuals looking to join the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (BBS) as a Communications Manager.
The Communications Manager will be responsible for providing excellent written and verbal communications for BBS. The successful candidate will have a passion for communication to lay audiences and delivering exceptional user experiences. They will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. They must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, English or marketing. Five to seven years of experience including excellent written and verbal communication skills. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Three years of experience in web content management, digital communication or similar roles
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and web accessibility standards
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills
- Mastery of Associated Press style
- Familiarity with CampusPress content management system or applicable web publishing software Familiarity with web analytics tools
- Strong project management skills and experience
- Experience in a higher education, STEM or academic environment
- Working knowledge or a variety of media, including news media, PR and web communications Strong attention to detail
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Write, edit and proofread content for internal, external and visible materials and platforms produced by BBS, including the website, crisis communications, and social media
- Edit, research, write and proofread BBS communications according to the Associated Press Stylebook
- Enforce guidelines for accessibility as well as University and BBS branding
- Develop and implement communications projects from conception to completion to maintenance, including message development, writing, project management, client interaction and other related duties with a special emphasis on:
- Internal communications
- External communication
- New and existing web content and related digital projects
- Crisis communication
- Social Media
- Attend BBS events, interview BBS faculty and other stakeholders to create impactful content
- Coordinate with BBS web team, podcast team, marketing team, recruiters, and student workers for seamless communications efforts across all platforms
- Track media coverage
- Manage social listening
- Train and manage content owners and stakeholders throughout the school on content management best practices and accessibility
- Analyze the performance and effectiveness of content, making data-driving recommendations for improvement
- Support the development of manuals, procedures, or best practice guides
- Performs related duties as assigned
Additional Information
Remote work for future availability:
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
