The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent job opportunity for individuals looking to join the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science team as a Director for the Institute of Data Analytics.

Reporting to the Dean in the School of Engineering and Computer Sciences (ECS), the Director will manage the daily activities of team members, including software engineers and scientists, in support of data security protocol, information assurance, quality management, and emergency preparedness. The Director will serve collaboratively as a school team member and interact with internal and external stakeholders and federal agencies to support various data management and technology security applications.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related progressive experience.

  • Ph.D. degree in CS and 10 years of experience in research and development.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize workload, and exercise independent thought and sound judgment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of the institution's operations, including grants and contracts, budgets, personnel, and strategic planning for short and long-term goals.
  • Conducts innovative research and implements critically needed programs in network security, data, and application security, security theory and protocols, information assurance, quality management, and emergency preparedness.
  • Responsible for data security and emergency response research and implementation.
  • Ensure operation of fault-tolerant and disaster-tolerant computer systems that are required to run securely 24/7/365 with 99.999% uptime.
  • Work with various government agencies to attract applied research contracts and grants that are critical to the institution's goals and objectives.
  • Prepare proposals and grant applications to various local, state, national, governmental, and private organizations for research and implementation by the institute personnel.
  • Supervise support staff and student workers, posting, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, time approval, training needs, and employee evaluations.
  • Manage and ensure standard operating procedures for unit operation


Hybrid Remote Work Notice
Following successful completion of an initial training period, a hybrid work schedule may be available, subject to business needs and departmental approval. Employee must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be cancelled.
