Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance shop and supervising a team of technicians responsible for maintaining and repairing company vehicles, equipment, and containers. This role ensures the fleet operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. The Maintenance Supervisor may also serve as manager-on-duty when other management personnel are unavailable.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and oversee repairs and preventative maintenance for company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.

  • Review and complete repairs identified through Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and repair orders. Conduct road tests to diagnose issues and confirm successful repairs.

  • Supervise a team responsible for the repair, installation, and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment, including rear-load, front-load, roll-off, grapple trucks, portable restroom units, and waste containers.

  • Prepare and review repair orders to ensure accurate labor, parts, and material charges and verify that work meets company maintenance standards. Maintain detailed maintenance and repair logs for each vehicle.

  • Provide leadership and oversight for maintenance staff, including training, coaching, performance evaluations, and attendance monitoring. Apply company leadership principles and enforce workplace safety standards.

  • Foster positive working relationships with drivers, mechanics, helpers, managers, and administrative staff to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Identify equipment and parts requirements and procure necessary parts within budget limits, escalating larger purchases or major repairs to the Maintenance Manager when necessary.

  • Participate in the safety lane inspection process, review DVIR reports, determine repair priorities, assign tasks to mechanics, and verify the quality and safety of completed work.

  • Inspect trucks, tools, and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with safety procedures and productivity standards.
